Tony Lakatos ist fraglos der herausragende Gralshüter amerikanischer Jazz Tradition in Deutschland. Seit Jahrzehnten verblüfft er seine Hörer und Kritiker weltweit nicht nur mit einem geradezu Chamäleonhaften Vermögen, sich in die amerikanische Jazztradition hineinzudenken und mal John Coltrane, mal Sonny Rollins und dann wieder Michael Brecker in seinem Ton nahezukommen, sondern sorgt nebenbei auch noch dafür, dass Klassiker der Jazz – Geschichte und vergessene Edelsteine dieses Repertoires immer wieder lebendig bleiben und hörbar gemacht werden.

Tony Lakatos is unquestionably the outstanding ‘keeper of the faith’ when it comes to American-style Jazz in Germany. For decades now he has wowed both listeners and critics worldwide. They credit not only his almost chameleon-like ability to take on various facets of the mindset associated with the tradition of Jazz made in the USA and perform them in voicings hauntingly reminiscent of such greats as John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and Michael Brecker. Equal grounds for enthusiastic praise have also been his efforts to keep classics in the history of Jazz and long-forgotten gems within this repertoire alive, giving them renewed ‘audibility’ time and again.
