Poems For Travellers

Das Emil Brandqvist Trio spielt in der Top-Liga europäischer Piano-Jazz-Formationen. Nachdem sie mit ihrem letzten Album bis auf die No.2 der Deutschen Jazz Charts vorgedrungen sind und 2024 mit einem Special Award für 50 Millionen Streams ihrer Erfolgsstücke, einer für das Instrumentaljazz – Genre ausgesprochen selten erreichten Marke, ausgezeichnet wurden, wird sicher auch das brandneue Projekt bei der stetig wachsenden Fangemeinde überzeugen.

Erstmals haben die drei Skandinavier dabei auf Gäste verzichtet und ihren bei den Fans so beliebten Mix aus prägnanten Melodien und sehr komplexen Arrangements im Studio nur als Trio eingespielt, wobei alle drei Bandmitglieder auch kompositorisch in Erscheinung treten. Bereits der Opener, das zupackende „A Visit To Reality“ signalisiert, dass diesmal das Trio  im Zentrum des Geschehens steht, alle drei Protagonisten sind entsprechend solistisch präsent. Der Schlagzeuger Emil Brandqvist spart aber auch nicht mit eingängigen Melodien, für die die der Göteborger so geschätzt wird, hier sei zum Beispiel die berührende Ballade „Endless Like The Sea“ genannt. In Bestform präsentiert sich auch Tuomas A. Turunen, dessen perlende Pianoläufe seine Eigenkomposition  „Shades Of Leaving“ veredeln, daneben zeichnet er auch für den Song „Run Away“ verantwortlich. Solistisch tritt der Finne mit einem Solo Piano Beitrag, dem klassisch geprägten „Interlude No.2“ von Emil Brandqvist in Erscheinung. Max Thornberg ist es vorbehalten, mit seiner Komposition, der gefühlvollen Ballade „Evening Land“,  den Schlußpunkt zu setzen. „Poems For Travellers“ ist ein weiterer Höhepunkt in der Vita des mittlerweile über zehn Jahre erfolgreichen skandinavischen Trios.

Neben der regulären CD und LP sowie den digitalen Veröffentlichungen wird es auch eine exklusive Vinyl-Edition geben, die auf einer zweiten LP alle Stücke enthält, die aus Spielzeitgründen bei der regulären LP-Ausgabe weggelassen werden mussten und darüber hinaus die Komposition „Memories“, ein veritabler Playlistenhit mit der bekannten Sängerin und Zitterspielerin Maija Kauhanen aus Finnland und bisher nur digital veröffentlicht.

The Emil Brandqvist Trio plays in the top tier of European Piano Jazz formations. After they advanced to No. 2 on the German Jazz Charts with their last album and were saluted with a Special Award for 50 million streams of their successful pieces in 2024 – an undisputedly seldom achieved volume for the Instrumental Jazz genre – this brand-new project will surely prove to be a clincher with the steadily growing fan community.

This is the first time the three Scandinavians have opted to refrain from featuring guests in the studio and only recorded the mix of well-crafted melodies and intricate arrangements so popular with their fans as trio. A highlight thereby: all three members of the band appear as composers, too. The gripping opener, “A Visit To Reality”, readily signalizes that this time the trio is in the midst of the action: all three protagonists are correspondingly present as soloists. Yet drummer Emil Brandqvist doesn’t spare on the catchy melodies the native Swede is so valued for either; in this case, for example, the touching ballad entitled “Endless Like The Sea”. Equally presenting himself in the best of form is Tuomas A. Turunen, whose pearling piano runs add polish and panache to his own composition, “Shades Of Leaving”. He’s also the author behind the song “Run Away”. As soloist this native Finn steps up with a feature on solo piano, the classically influenced “Interlude No. 2” by Emil Brandqvist. It remains reserved for Max Thornberg to set the culmination to the album with his composition, a soulful ballad named “Evening Land”. In a nutshell, “Poems For Travellers” is yet another highlight in the documented career of this Scandinavian trio that has racked up successes for over ten years.

In addition to the regular CD and LP along with the digital releases there is going to be an exclusive Vinyl Edition that contains all the pieces on a second LP that had to be left out from the regular LP edition due to playing-time constraints. As an added bonus, the composition “Memories”, a veritable playlist hit featuring the well-known vocalist and cantele player Maija Kauhanen from Finland, which to date has only been released digitally.
