Auf „HomeTone“ spürt Tony Lakatos abermals Quellen des amerikanischen Jazz. Wo anders als in New York City hätte also die neueste Produktion von Lakatos entstehen können. Er stellte sich dafür mit Billy Drummond und Robert Hurst eine Spitzen – Rhythmusgruppe auch nach US - Maßstäben zusammen und brachte diese mit Musikern zusammen, die in seinem europäischen Umfeld für ihn von Bedeutung sind. Zum Einen seinen Kollege aus der HR Bigband, den hoch talentierten Axel Schlosser an der Trompete sowie mit Robi Botos einen herausragenden ungarischen Pianisten, der mittlerweile in Canada lebt. Dabei besticht Tony Lakatos, angetrieben durch eine gut geölte Rhythmusmaschine, mit sprühenden Soli in Uptempo – Stücken oder gelassenem Balladenspiel, bei dem jedem abgehangenen Ton Bedeutung zukommt. Vielleicht liegen Leistung und Reiz dieser Jazz – Produktion in dem Brückenschlag eines der führenden Jazz – Saxofonisten Europas und seiner europäischen Mitstreiter mit einer tief im amerikanischen Jazz – Idiom verwurzelten Auffassung, den Jazz zu spielen.
On “HomeTone” Tony Lakatos again takes a look on American jazz sources So where else could the sessions for this newest Lakatos production take place but in NYC, the Big Apple? He duly lined up Billy Drummond and Robert Hurst as top-notch rhythm section, even according to US standards, then proceeded to bring them together with musicians who are important to him in his European surroundings: Axel Schlosser, a highly talented trumpet player and fellow colleague from the HR Bigband, a broadcasting network ensemble, and Robi Botos, an outstanding pianist from Hungary who now lives in Canada. Driven by well-oiled, ‘bop till you drop’ rhythms, Tony Lakatos presents sparkling solos or the laid-back playing on ballads that let listeners hang on the notes and their meaning. The achievement and attraction posed by this jazz production lie in the bridge forged between one of the leading jazz saxophonists in Europe, his European comrades-in-arms and their interpretation of playing a jazz deeply rooted in the American idiom.
