Wo immer die NDR – BIGBAND gastiert, ist die Kritik sich einig, dass diese Band der Solisten zu den hochkarätigsten Formationen ihrer Zunft zählt. Das Werk „Concert For Jazz Orchestra“, welches der Posaunist Albert Mangelsdorff unter einem anderen Titel bereits 1987 als Auftragskomposition für den NDR schrieb, wurde eigens für diese Produktion neu und speziell für die Band arrangiert. Dies gilt ebenso für die „Klassiker“ „Visit“ (der geübte Hörer wird das Stück „Hot Hut“ wiederentdecken) und „Meise vorm Fenster“ - Arrangements, die großartigen Solisten wie Christof Lauer (Saxofon), Ingolf Burkhardt (Trompete), Vladyslav Sendecki (Piano) und Wolfgang Haffner (Schlagzeug) großen Raum geben, ihre Kreativität zu entfalten und dem Ensemblespiel immense Konzentration abverlangen. Ein großartiger und einzigartiger Künstler fügt mit dieser Veröffentlichung seiner Discographie einen weiteren Meilenstein hinzu, die CD erhielt den Vierteljahres-Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkrtik und erreichte Position No.16 der Deutschen Jazz Charts.
Wherever the NDR BIGBAND plays critics unanimously agree that this “Band of Soloists” numbers among the very finest formations of its kind. The work "Concert for Jazz Orchestra" that the trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff had already written under another title in 1987 as a commissioned composition for NDR, a German broadcaster, was rearranged by him especially for this production and this band. The same goes for the ‘classics’ “Visit” (attentive listeners are going to rediscover the piece “Hot Hut”) and “Meise vorm Fenster” ('Variations On A Bird’s Call'). Arrangements that allow fabulous soloists like Christof Lauer (saxophone), Ingolf Burkhardt (trumpet), Vladyslav Sendecki (piano) and Wolfgang Haffner (drums) a great deal of leeway to let their creativity unfold, and ones which demand immense concentration from the ensemble. A great, unique artist is adding yet another milestone to his discography, the cd received the quarterly Award of the German Music Critics and reached No. 16 in the German Jazz Charts.
