Der derzeit in Frankfurt/M. lebende Saxofonist Tony Lakatos gehört zweifellos zu den führenden europäischen Meistern seines Instruments, auch wenn er noch immer den Status des Geheimtipps für sich in Anspruch nehmen kann. Nach seinem Studium am Bela Bartok Konservatorium in den 70er Jahren, wirkte der gebürtige Budapester bis heute auf über 200 CD Produktionen als Leader oder Sideman mit und wurde dabei u.a. von Musikern wie Al Foster, Joanne Brackeen, Jasper Van’t Hoff, Terri Lynne Carrington, Anthony Jackson und Kirk Lightsey begleitet. Der Gavin Report verzeichnete seine beiden Produktionen “Recycling” und “The News” jeweils unter den zehn besten Veröffentlichungen des Jahres. Seit 1999 ist Tony Lakatos auch festes Mitglied der HR Bigband und wirkte neben seinen Alben unter eigenem Namen auch auf drei Wolfgang Haffner CDs für SKIP RECORDS mit.

Currently a resident of Frankfurt, Germany, saxophonist Tony Lakatos is without a doubt one of the leading European masters of his instrument, even though he can still claim to be a hot tip among insiders in the know. Following his studies at the acclaimed Bela Bartok Conservatory in the 1970s, this native of Budapest, Hungary accumulated a track record of over 150 CD productions as leader or sideman accompanied by musicians like Al Foster, Joanne Brackeen, Jasper Van’t Hoff, Terri Lynne Carrington, Anthony Jackson and Kirk Lightsey. The Gavin Report listed his productions “Recycling” and “The News” among the Top Ten Best Releases of the Year. He has been an ongoing member of the HR Bigband and has on top of his own albums recorded on three albums of Wolfgang Haffner for SKIP RECORDS since then.
