Various Artists - Women With A Voice Chapter 2 |
On the occasion of Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday in 2008 the time has come to release the second chapter of the comprehensive documentary of South African vocalists. The point of our efforts this time was to put together an entertaining mix comprised of very young talent, singers like Siphokazi, Zamajobe or Lira who have only recently made first appearances at the South African Music Awards, and, in counterpoint, to feature the land's absolute legends like Dorothy Masuka or Gospel Queen Rebecca Malope. Also included are South Arica's hottest music exports at the time Feshlyground and Simphiwe Dana . Brenda Fassie and Linda Kekana pays homage with her songs to the first black president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela. The album is accompanied by a booklet containing remarks about each singer from Wolfgang König, a journalist and profound authority of on South Africa. His commentary represents a meticulously researched introduction on the various careers and lyrical content.

Lovisa - That Girl! |
On Lovisa's debut album , pianist and arranger Bengt Lindqvist, an old hand on the Swedish Jazz scene stood by her. Consequently the repertoire swings between timeless Jazz standards like Hoagy Carmichael's Skylark" , Burt Bacharach's The Look Of Love", a pop classic from the days of the iconic Ipanema sound and miniature gems like the James Taylor song "Line ‚em Up" or "Time Is A Healer " by the ungorgettable Eva Cassidy .The line-up of musicians on "That Girl !" includes Jan Allan, a Swedish trumpet player who ranks among the best of European talent.

Omar Sosa - Afreecanos |
The focus of "Afreecanos" is the music of Africa. Alongside Childo Tomas / bass and Julio Barreto / drums , the current members of his trio , Omar Sosa invited musicians from Mali, Senegal, Guinea, Morocco and also France and Brazil to sit in on the sessions. His spiritual ode to Africa is a melange, where Omar Sosa never seems to dominate thereby, but acts more as a catalyst and master of ceremonies who turns in a certain path, takes his musicians along with him and encourages them to make their own explorations. "I have tried with Afreecanos to express a little part of the melodic countour of Africa and its great rhythmic strength." Created out of the preliminary studies of "Promise" this album is a wonderful combination of the cultures of Africa, South America and the Caribbean.

Tingvall Trio - Norr |
To put it mildly, the consistency of the young trio have continued to pursue and refine their very own sound as a group on "Norr" is stunning. Nordic ballad elegies like "Utsikt" or "Båtsregn" alternate with groove-accented cuts like "Grrr", pieces like "Barnslig", a track that could have been inspired by Lyle Mays, or "Mjau" , whose lightness emerges from something surprisingly similar to what might have been a calypso number like "St.Thomas" by Sonny Rollins. A refreshing follow - up album for hard-core jazz fans and a broad group of listeners from other genres simply interested in the melodies and grooves.

Vocal Sampling - Akapelleando |
True to their name, evrything is created using vocals. Not just the lead vocals and back-ups: We're talking about all the elements of a Latin orchestra - percussion, the horns, keyboards, bass figures and every other instrument, too. This time the ensemble is presenting a broad spectrum of Cuban music ranging from guaracha and boleros right through to rumba and swinging salsa. Beside originals and classics of the Latin music genre you can find on their first self-produced album standard like Harry Belafonte's "Banana Boat" and the Eagles monster hit "Hotel California", a prime example of how these 6 fellows from Cuba can lay down spectacular vocal trackswhich even appeal to listeners completely unfamiliar with the Latino Sound.
