Omar Sosa : Mulatos |
 |
| |
The album title "Mulatos" is an accurate description of how he has taken his particular blend of Cuban music and linked it to the rhythmic influences of the Indian tabla, jazz drums and electronic studio technology, forming a new cosmos of sound . This project signifies the first time that Omar Sosa has decided to record with musicians who entirely do not belong to the Cuban cultural circle, the protagonists are Dhafer Youssef, Steve Arguelles, Dieter Ilg, Philippe Foch and Renaud Pion. This time Omar Sosa is not restricting himself to the role of pianist. He can be be heard on the marimba, harmonium, fender rhodes, vibraphone and percussion as well. Evert he audiophonic diplomat, he was able to win over famous saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera , a musician he has held in high esteem for years. Co-producer Steve Arguelles decsribes the album as compactly structured:
Regardless of whether they were a simple melody, an interesting rhythm or electronic effects here and there, musical ideas were broken down to distinct structures, then transposed into free forms by the musical actors taking part." This album is without any doubt the most accessible effort to date.
