Omar Sosa : A New Life |
 |
| |
Billboard drew parallels Omar Sosa's works and the inspirational flows of Keith Jarrett's solo
concerts. "A New Life" is already his third solo recording, but while ist predecessors can be interpreted mainly as miniatures, sketches and the starting points for his later opulent recordings with band, this time the Cuban pianist is presenting a work of music that bears the marks of all-out improvisation. Motivated and emotionally anchored by the birth of his son Lonius Said, Sosa plumbs the full range of his instrument, exploring the pianos's possibilities in the widest variety of forms while sustaining a tightly meshed dialog between hands, heart and soul - surely his most personal recording to date.
Press Quotes:
Financial Times 11/03:
"Sosa is a phenomenally thrilling pianist. His friendliest, most sentimental production yet, but his music remains untouched by the animosities of hollow kitsch and empty phrases."
Rolling Stone 11/03:
"Boundless fantasy."
Jazzthing 11/03:
"His bath in modal ecstasies is at times reminiscent of McCoy Tyner."
Good Times 12/03:
"Sosa is banking more strongly than before on minimalism and simplicity."
