Omar Sosa : Ayaguna

Omar Sosa : Ayaguna"Ayaguna" showcases a more intimate side of Omar Sosa. The album is devoted wholly to the finely spun dialogue with the band's man for percussion, Gustavo Ovalles, allowing the pianist to unfold the entire range of his consummate finesse in all its intensity: from energy-charged groove patterns to balladesque reveries. The duo-album was recorded in July 2002 in the course of sessions at Motion Blue, Yokohama/Japan and documents a new facet of work with the Venezuelan percussionist, a relationship which has been growing over three years. What has evolved are reduced essences of percussive synergies and sensitive, poetic moments reflecting an extraordinary chemistry and suspense - a reverence held in Santeria, the source of inspiration for the two disciples of Yoruba. As an enhanced CD, "Ayaguna" includes interview segments with Omar Sosa and the ballad "Iyawo" as a bonus track, mixing multimedia impressions from the two London VJs Marc Silver and Nick Hille (Yeast) with live footage of Omar Sosa.

"A thrilling narrative structure. Omar Sosa is one of the discoveries on the piano in recent years."
