 "Special Kick" is an allstar - line.up, which features beside bass - player Wolfgang Schmid and Joo Kraus on trumpet/ rap, one of the major European talents on drums, Marco Minnemann, Schmid's long-time companion Peter Wölpl on guitar and Czech-born Libor Shima on saxophone. As a umit, these five create a rarely found, tighter-than-tight weave of jazz grooves that's distinctly delectable. Funk serves as a launch pad: the wide spectrum of tones and shadings allows highly complex material to re-entry a relaxed listening pleasure. As an example opener "Ringading Dang" kicks off with a bassthunderstorm steaming down to cool trumpet and rap sounds featuring Joo Kraus, on "November Eleven" it's clearly filmtrackesque, flowing ensemble character that documents the band's versatility and "Check The Soul In Your Soul" is imbued with the R & B touch of the 60s. Amazing time and again with that seeming effortlessness in laying down the wildest time signatures as if they were a child's play.
