Omar Sosa : Sentir |
 |
| |
On "Sentir", a Spanish verb that translates as "to feel", the Cuban pianist has increasingly taken into account that Barcelona, his present abbode, confronts him very strongly with North African influences. This fusion of elements, the music of Cuba and Morocco, the points where they overlap, enhance each other and interpret anew are the theme of this production which, in light of Sosa's background, has surprisingly turned out to elicit nuances of chamber music. Among the pillars supporting this novel concept are the prominent Moroccan singer and guembri-player El Houssaine Kili, Venezuelan percussionist Gustavo Ovalles, Yoruba vocalist Martha Galarraga and Spoken word - artist Sub Z from Washington D.C.. In the liner notes written by Sosa himself, the artist goes on the reveal these cultures' overlapping spiritual color schemes, crossings which, as he interprets them, foster both musical communication and improvisation.
