 The young soloists of SUBTONE, a quintet that originally met at Bundesjazzorchetser, a German state jazz orchestra, now live in Berlin, Brussels and New York City. The signature of Magnus Schriefl (trumpet), Malte Dürrschnabel (saxophone), Florian Höfner (piano), Benjamin Hiesinger (bass) and Peter Gall (drums) is an absolutely balanced, perfectly harmonizing ensemble sound, which rapidly developed the quintet into an insider tip and led to invitations by prestigious festivals like Jazz Baltica and Palatia Jazz. In the fall of 2008, the ensemble won the Jury Prize, the Audience Prize and the Soloist Prize at "Tremplin Jazz d'Avignon", a European Jazz competition. SUBTONE captivates most of all with the compositional power of their pieces, always letting space for improvisation and interaction.
